Of course you already know what to do to keep your teeth clean - you brush them twice a day for two minutes, but there are tons of other things you can do to keep your teeth healthy as well:

Drink Lots Of Water

Staying hydrated is so important for all of us, which makes sense, we're mainly made of water! In terms of your oral health staying hydrated is important for a few reasons. Firstly tap water contains fluoride which helps keep your teeth healthy. Water helps rinse away recent stains, or bacteria that can be harmful to teeth. Drinking water also helps keep your mouth moist which is important as saliva helps combat nasty teeth harming bacteria.

Snack On Healthy Food

Try to keep a cap on the amount of sugary snacks you consume on a daily basis. How sugary a snack is isn't as important as how often you have that sugary snack. The bacteria that live inside your mouth naturally eat the food on your teeth, and when they eat the sugar sticking to your teeth they release acidic waste harmful to teeth. Repeated consumption of sugary snacks can lead to cavities.

Drink Through A Straw

Using straws to drink is a great idea because it stops all of the teeth from being bathed in liquids that are damaging and staining. Every time you sip a sugary or acidic drink you restart the process of an acid or bacteria attack on your teeth. Every time you drink coffee or red wine, you're also exposing your teeth to tannins which can stain the teeth. There's a good reason Joey Essex apparently drinks his latte through a straw! So if you are going to enjoy some juice, an iced coffee or fizzy pop, try sipping it through a straw to limit the damage to your teeth.

Chew Sugar Free Chewing Gum After Meals

Saliva is an amazing natural defence which washes away nasty bacteria in the mouth and defends the teeth against it as well. It's so important and chewing sugar free chewing gum encourages your mouth to produce more of it, so get chewing for around 20 minutes after a meal for maximum benefits.

Crunch On Fruit & Vegetables

According to Cancer Research UK "A diet high in fruit and vegetables may protect against oral cancer – insufficient fruit and vegetables intake is linked to an estimated 56% of oral cancer cases in the UK." (Source). So get munching on those nutrient rich plant foods to help protect yourself against this deadly killer which is preventable in 91% of cases.
