Long standing gum inflammation or gingivitis, can, in time, progress to periodontal disease. As the disease worsens the bone supporting the teeth becomes involved causing the teeth to become loose. Without treatment, the teeth will eventually fall out.
Periodontal disease is still the major cause of loss of teeth in adults and in most cases can be treated and is highly preventable with the right advice and education.
There are a number of different types of periodontal disease and they require slightly different approaches dependent on the extent of disease.

There is no cure for periodontal disease, but it can be controlled as long as you keep up the home care you have been taught. Regular visits and reviews with our Dental Hygienist are essential and Dr Tay will recommend a review schedule for you.
